Asensio named March Player of the Month
Marco Asensio has been voted Aston Villa's Player of the Month for March. The attacking midfielder, having also scooped the club's award in February, has now celebrated back-to-back honours since his loan arrival at Villa Park. Asensio made three appearances for the Villans in March and helped fire the club to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley. The Spaniard stepped off the bench as a 64th-minute substitute and duly scored a late penalty to cap a 3-1 triumph at Club Brugge in the first leg of our round of 16 tie in Belgium. Having not featured against Brentford in the Premier League, Asensio then marked his return by bagging a brace in the European return leg at Villa Park. Making an immediate impact, he was introduced at half-time before scoring twice in the space of just 11 minutes to wrap up a 3-0 victory and 6-1 aggregate success. Unai Emery's side then returned from a break in the action to see off Preston North End 3-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals, with Asensio completing 73 minutes at Deepdale. Villa's top three players in our March poll were: Marco Asensio 45% Marcus Rashford 22% Tyrone Mings 8% Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations, Marco!
